Entrance Exams after 12th

There are a lot of courses after 12th class that one can do. There are many takers for the limited seats in various Colleges of India that offer these courses after 12th , the admission is done on the basis of entrance exams. Some of these are National levelentrance exams and some are held at the state level. Here is list and description of some of the main entrance exams after 12th that are held in India.

 

Engineering/ Architecture Entrance Exams
  • JEE Main 2015

 JEE Main 2015 is National level entrance exam after 12th for admission to Engineering programs at NITs, IIITs and centrally funded technical institutions like IIST, and is also the eligibility test for JEE Advanced. The States of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Nagaland, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Odisha have joined JEE (Main) system. Therefore, the candidates seeking admission to the institutions in these states, which were earlier admitting based on their State Level Examination, are also advised to fill in the JEE (Main) – 2015 application form online.

CBSE conducts the test, the notification is out in the month of November- Dec every year and the exam is held in the month of April. The notification for JEE Main 2015 is out and the last date to apply is 18th Dec 2014. Only online applications can be made. The test will be held in offline mode on 4th April and in online mode on 10th and 11th April.

Mode of examination :

Paper 1 (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) is conducted in online as well as offline mode.
Paper 2 (Mathematics-1, Aptitude Test II and Drawing Test –III is conducted only in offline mode.
For B.Arch and B.Planning the students have to appear in Paper 2 and for all other UG courses students have to appear in Paper1. Students can opt for papers in English as well as Hindi. One can attempt JEE 2 times only.

Eligibility for JEE Main 2015 :
For BE/B.Tech: Subjects in Qualifying Examination: Physics, Mathematics and one of the subjects from(Chemistry, Bio-technology, Computer Science, Biology) along with 50% marks in total including all subjects
For B.Arch and B Planning: Mathematics subject along with 50% Marks in total including all subjects.

  • JEE Advanced 2015

JEE (Advanced) – 2015 is conducted by Joint Admission Board of IITs for admission to all undergraduate Engineering and other science programs offered at 16 IITs in India and ISM Dhanbad. (As per the eligibility criteria and clearing JEE Main).

JEE Advanced is held after the JEE mains as Top 1.5 lakh students of JEE Main are eligible for the test. In 2015 the exam will be held on May 24, 2015
Mode of JEE Advanced :
There are two papers of 3 hours each and both papers are compulsory. The question papers will be bilingual (in English and Hindi). Each of the question papers will consist of three separate sections on Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
Candidates who wish to write JEE (Advanced) must write Paper – I of JEE (Main). Only top 1,50,000 candidates (including all categories)who qualify in Paper – I of JEE (Main) will be eligible to appear for JEE (Advanced). Also to be eligible the candidate should either be in the TOP 20 % in the board or should have scores more than 75% marks. A total of 2 consecutive attempts can be availed by candidates.
Candidates desirous of joining the B Arch are required to qualify in an Aptitude Test, the test is conducted at all Zonal IITs in the month of June. Seat allotment is done based on category wise all India Rank in JEE advanced. The test is conducted in English only and students have to register for this separately.

  • NATA

National Aptitude Test in architecture is for admission to B Arch in India in Government and Government aided and un-aided colleges of Architecture.

NATA can be given at any designated test centers, at least 6 working days prior to the cut off date for applying in the preferred colleges. NATAapplications forms are available in the month of March and one can take the exam on any working day from March to Aug.

The National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) measures the aptitude of the applicant for specific field of study, i.e. Architecture. The test measures drawing and observation skills, sense of proportion, aesthetic sensitivity and critical thinking ability that have been acquired over a long period of time and that are related to specific field of study, i.e. Architecture.

Eligibility:Candidates having 50% marks in 10+2 or equivalent examination with mathematics as one of the subject, only are eligible for admission to B.Arch. Course.
As per Council of Architecture regulations, a candidate applying to any school / college of architecture in India should have achieved 40% score in NATA, i.e. at least 80/200, for consideration of admission into first year B.Arch.

  • BITSAT

BITSAT is computer based online entrance exam after 12th for admission to integrated First degree programmes of BITS Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad, for admission to BITS Pilani Engineering, Pharmacy, Information Systems and other courses.

Eligibility:
Candidates should have passed the 12th class examination of 10+2 system from a recognized Central or State board or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Further the candidate should have obtained a minimum of aggregate 75% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects in 12th examination, at least 60% marks in each of the Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects and should have adequate proficiency in English.
First rank students of all the central and state boards in India for the year 2013 will be given direct admission to the program of their choice, irrespective of their BITSAT-2013 score as per the eligibility criteria.
BITSAT-2013 will be of total 3-hour duration (without break). The test consists of four parts:
Part I : Physics
Part II : Chemistry
Part III : (a) English Proficiency and (b) Logical Reasoning
Part IV : Mathematics
All questions are of objective type (multiple choice questions); each question with choice of four answers, only one being correct choice. Each correct answer fetches 3 marks, while each incorrect answer has a penalty of 1 mark (-1mark).

Notifications are out in the month of Dec and online tests are held in the month of May through June.

  • VITEEE

VIT University conducts VITEEE for admission to its various B Tech Degree programs.

Eligibility for VITEEE:
A pass in 10+2 or its equivalent with a minimum average of 60% of marks in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics or Biology (PCM / PCB).
Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics (PCM) candidates are eligible for all the programmes.
Physics, Chemistry & Biology (PCB) candidates are eligible only for B.Tech. Bioinformatics, Biotechnology & Biomedical Engineering programmes.
Online applications are available from December and the test is held in March.

Medical/Dental Entrance Exams
  • AIPMT 2015

All India Pre Medical Test ( AIPMT) is conducted for admission only for the 15% national quota in government medical/dental colleges all over India and for 100% seats in Delhi University , BHU, AFMC , Jamia Hamdard and for medical colleges in states of Chhatisgarh, Jharkhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh.
CBSE conducts the test and it will be held on May 3rd, 2015. The applications will be available from the month of December.

AIPMT-2015 will also be the basis of admission to medical or dental colleges voluntarily participating in the test in selected cities across the country and abroad.

In AIPMT 2015, there will be just a single paper, as opposed to two papers in the older AIPMT. There will be 180 objective type questions from physics, chemistry, botany and zoology (45 questions from each subject). The syllabus will be same as AIPMT 2014 and eligibility criteria will also be the same.

The CBSE conducts the exam and the counseling is done by DGHS.

  • AIPVT

All India Pre-Veterinary Test AIPVT is an entrance exam after 12th conducted for admission to 5 year B. Vsc and AH) courses in India. The exam is held to fill up 15% of total number of seats in Government Veterinary colleges except in the state of Jammu & Kashmir.

Eligibility for AIPVT
Students must have passed class 10+2 or equivalent Physics, Chemistry, Biology and any other elective subject with English at a level not less than the core course for English as prescribed by the National Council for Education Research.

Exam Pattern: The test is of 3 hours and has one paper of 200 objective type questions from Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

  • Entrance Exam for AIIMS MBBS

AIIMS conducts a entrance exam after 12th at National Level for admission to AIIMS MBBS and other 6 new AIIMS like institutions.

AIIMS conducts entrance exam for 72 seats in the MBBS course in Delhi and 100 each in other AIIMS like institutions.

Eligibility: Age min 17 years and max 25 years. The candidate should have passed 10+2 or equivalent exam with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology and have obtained min 60% marks.

  • UPMT 2014

UPMT Uttarakhan Pre Medical Test 2014 entrance exam after 12th will be conducted by G B Pant Agriculture and Technology University, Pantnager for admission to state quota seats for MBBS and BDS courses in various Medical Colleges in Uttarakhand for the year 2014-15.

Eligibility: Age min 17 years and max 25 years. The candidate should have passed 10+2 or equivalent exam with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology and have obtained min 60% marks.

  • MGIMS 2014

MGIMS Pre Medical Test 2014 entrance exam after 12th is conducted by MGIMS ever year for MBBS course. There are 46 seats for Maharashtra candidates and 46 seats for candidates of other states.

Eligibility: Age min 17 years and max 25 years. The candidate should have passed 10+2 or equivalent exam with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology and have obtained min 60% marks.

  • CET Medical Entrance Exam 2014

In the state of Karnataka, CET is conducted for admission to Medical and Engineering courses in various state colleges . This entrance exam after 12th is conducted by State government every year for free seats, payment seats and management seats for MBBS course.

Eligibility: Age min 17 years and max 25 years. The candidate should have passed 10+2 or equivalent exam with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology and have obtained min 60% marks.

  • EAMCET Medical Entrance Exam 2014

In the state of Andhra Pradesh, EAMCET is conducted for admission to Medical and Engineering courses in various state colleges . This entrance exam after 12th is conducted by JNTU every year for admission to Engineering, Medical and Agriculture Courses.

Eligibility: Age min 17 years and max 25 years. The candidate should have passed 10+2 or equivalent exam with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology/ Biotechnology/Mathematics and have obtained min 60% marks.

Hotel Management Entrance Exams
  • NCHMCT JEE

National council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology Joint regulates B.Sc Hospitality and Hotel Administration and other courses of study at 21 central IHM, 14 state government IHM and 15 private IHM affiliated with NCHMCT. For admission to courses offered at these institutes the council conducts Joint Entrance Test (JEE).

Eligibility:
10+2 students with English as one of the subjects are eligible to apply. The upper age limit is 22 years.
The application forms can be sent till 7th April 2014 and the entrance test will be held on 26th April at various centres.
JEE assesses candidates on Numerical ability, scientific aptitude, Reasoning and Logical deduction, General Knowledge and current affairs and English Language.

  • E CHAT

Common Hotel Admission Test (e CHAT) is conducted by Edexcel Educational services for admission in 3 year BA in Hospitality management at IIHM various campuses.
The test can be taken online. The test assesses language comprehension, mathematical skills, data analysis and interpretation, intelligence and critical reasoning, awareness of Indian and Global economy. There are 45 questions to be answered in 60 minutes.
In 2013 the test was held on 10th MAY.

Law Entrance Exams
  • CLAT

Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is conducted for admission to undergraduate and post graduate programmes at 14 National Law Universities. In 2014 CLAT will be conducted by GNLU, Gandhinagar.

Eligibility for CLAT:
A candidate should have obtained a Senior Secondary School/Intermediate (10+2) or its equivalent certificate from a recognized Board with not less than 45% marks in aggregate (40% in case of SC and ST candidates) and should be below 20 years of age.
CLAT Pattern: CLAT is for 2 hours and covers questions on English, General Knowledge/ current affairs Numerical ability, Legal Aptitude and Logical reasoning. There is negative marking for wrong answers.
The last date for sending completed forms is 31st march 2014 and the test will be held on 11th May 2014.

  • AILET

The National Law University Delhi conducts the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) for admission to its B.A.LL.B (Hons.), LL.M and Ph.D Degree Programmes.In 2014 the test will be held on Sunday, 04th May 2014. The detailed notification will be out in the month of November 2013.

AILET is held for 81 seats in NLU Delhi. Students who have passed 10+2 with English or appearing for it are eligible to apply. Age limit is 21 years to sit for AILET. To secure a seat the candidate has to score a min of 40% in AILET.
AILET tests the candidates on English, GK, Legal Aptitude, Reasoning and Numerical Ability. The paper is of 90 minutes and there are 150 questions.

  • LSAT

Law School Admission Test (LSAT) India is considered for admission to Law programmes in participating colleges like Amity, UPES Dehradun, ITM Gurgaon, Faculty of Law Dehradun, RGSOIPL 3 yr LLB at IIT Khargapur and others.

Eligibility: 10+2 pass students with min 50% marks are eligible to apply. For 3 year LLB graduates in any stream with min 50% marks.

LSAT has 4 sections on logical reasoning and reading comprehension.

  • Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET)

SET is a common entrance test for admission to its undergraduate courses. The law school in Symbiosis University takes this entrance test for admission to undergraduate coursei n law. The test assesses the candidates on Logical reasoning, Legal Reasoning, Analytical Reasoning, Reading Comprehension and GK.

Design Entrance Exams
  • NIFT

NIFT conducts entrance test for admission to its bachelors program. For B Design it takes GAT and CAT and Situation test.

For B.F Tech Student have to appear in GAT test.

GAT Test Components : The general Ability test assesses the students on Quantitative Ability, Communication Ability, English Comprehension, Analytical Ability and GK and Current Affairs.
CAT: Creative Ability Test assesses the intuition skill, power of observation, innovation in development of a concept and design ability of a candidate.

Situation Test: This test is a hands on test to evaluate the skill for material handling and innovative ability on a given situation with a given set of materials.

Eligibility : Students who have passed class 10+2 with any stream are eligible for the test.

In 2013 the test was conducted on 10th Feb for design courses and in April for F tech courses.

  • NID

National Institute of Design conducts Design Aptitude Test for admission to its UG programmes at all centres.

In 2014 the test will be conducted on Jan 12th. The applications are closed in the month of November every year.

Eligibility :
Who have passed or who will appear for qualifying examinations under the Higher Secondary (10+2) or equivalents like AISSCE/ IB/ ISC during the academic year 2013-14. Successful candidates shall be given admission to the academic programme, by the institute, subject to their passing the qualifying examinations. The medium of instruction at NID is English.

Upper age limit for candidates is 20 years.

  • Pearl Academy

Pearl Academy conducts entrance exam for admission to its UG programmes in Design and Fashion at all centres that is Mumbai, Jaipur, Chennai and Delhi.

In 2014 the test will be conducted on April 12th. The last date for online applications is April 8 2014.

Eligibility :
Who have passed or who will appear for qualifying examinations under the Higher Secondary (10+2) or equivalents like AISSCE/ IB/ ISC during the academic year 2013-14. Successful candidates shall be given admission to the academic programme, by the institute, subject to their passing the qualifying examinations.

  • Apeejay Institute of Design

Apeejay Institute of Design, New Delhi conducts Design Aptitude Test for admission to its UG programmes.

In 2014 the test will be conducted on 19th and 20th April. The last date for registration is 15th April 2014.

Eligibility :
The program duration is 4 years and 10+2 pass students with 50% marks or more from a recognized board are eligible for admission. The final selection is based on entrance test followed by an interview.

  • FDDI All India Selection Test( AIST)

Footwear Design and Development Institute ( FDDI) takes a Computer based entrance test(Math, English, reasoning/General science & GK) for its various programs at UG and PG Level.

For PG courses students with valid CAT/ MAT/XAT scores also eligible.In 2014 the entrance will be conducted on 13th, 14th, and 15th June.The last date for registration is 19th May 2014.

Eligibility :
10+2 pass students with 50% marks or more from a recognized board are eligible for admission. The final selection is based on entrance test followed by an interview.

Common Entrance Exams
  • NDA

To join the NDA ( National Defence Academy) the UPSC conducts entrance exam twice a year.

Eligibility: 16 ½ to 19 yrs as of first day of the month in which course is due to commence. 12th Class of 10+2 System of Education/Equivalent for Army and with Physics and Maths for AF/Navy.

Only Unmarried male candidates are eligible to apply.

Mode of exam: There are two papers in NDA. The paper 1 is on mathematics of class 10th level. Paper II is GK. This GK section consists of Physics, Chemistry, General Science, History, Freedom Movement, Geography and current affairs.

  • CPT for Chartered Accountancy

Common Proficiency Test (CPT) is held twice every year and is open only to those students who are registered with Institute of Chartered Accountants of India on or before 2 April every year and who fulfill the eligibility criteria.

CPT was held on 22nd June in 2014.

Test pattern:
CPT is an objective type test of 200 marks of 4 subjects ie Fundamentals of Accounting, Mercantile Law, General Economics and Quantitative Aptitude with an objective to test the basic knowledge in these subjects. There are two sessions of 2 hours each and there is a small break after 1 session.
A candidate is declared to have passed the test if he obtains at one sitting a minimum of thirty percent marks in each section and 50% marks in the aggregate of all sections. The marking system has negative marks for wrong answers. Candidates are allowed to opt for Hindi medium Question Paper Booklet for answering the questions.
Eligibility: 10+2 Examination of any other recognized Board/University not covered above but recognized by Association of Indian Universities (AIU) as equivalent to Senior Secondary (10+2) Examination as recognized by Central Government.

  • CUCET

Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET) is organized for admission to Integrated, undergraduate and post Graduate and Research Programs ( BA Bed, BSc B Ed, BA LLB, Integrated MA, MA, MSc, MSc B Ed, Integrated M Sc in 10 Central Universities of Bihar, Gujarat, Jammu, Jharkhand, Kashmir, Kerala, Orissa, Punjab, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.

It is a National level Exam and students can apply for in online as well as offline mode.

Forms are available in the second week of March and in 2013 the test was held in the month of May.

  • PU CET

Panjab University Common Entrance Test (PU CET) is organized for admission to B Pharm and B Sc Hons in Anthropology, Bio Chemistry, Bio Physics, Biotechnology, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Microbiology, Mathematics, Mathematics and Computing, Physics, Physics and Electronics, Zoology.

Forms are available in the month of March and in 2014 the test was held on 24th May.

Management Entrance Tests
  • IPM(IIM Indore)

The test is conducted by IIM Indore for admission to its 5 year Integrated Programme in Management.
The aptitude test covers Quantitative Ability (60%) and verbal Ability (40%) sections. Students who score in both the sections are considered for short listing for PI.
The test was last conducted on May 10, 2013.

Eligibility : 60% aggregate marks at Secondary/ X Std/ Equivalent and at Higher Secondary/XII/+2 level/ Equivalent for General and NC-OBC category candidates (55% aggregate marks at Secondary/ X Std/ Equivalent and at Higher Secondary/XII/+2 level/ Equivalent for SC, ST and PWD / DA candidates). All candidates meeting the minimum eligibility mentioned above will be called for Aptitude Test.
Maximum age is 22 years.

Applications are open in end of March.

  • Delhi University BMS entrance

Delhi University conducts an entrance test for admission to its Bachelor of Management Studies program. The entrance test is held in many cities across India and the application process begins in the month of May.
In 2013 the test was held on 26th June 2013.

Eligibility :
(a) The candidate should have passed/appeared in Senior Secondary School Examination of CBSE or any other examination considered equivalent by the University of Delhi.
(b) The candidate should have appeared and secured pass marks in English and three subjects from among the following: Accountancy, Agriculture, Biology, Biotechnology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Commerce, Computer Science, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Geography, History,Informatics Practices, Mathematics, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology.
General category students should have min 60% marks in the qualifying examination.

Foreign Nationals seeking admission to BMS course against the prescribed quota of seats are exempt from the test.

Others
  • NEST

The National Entrance Screening Test is conducted every year for admission to 5 year integrated M Sc. Course in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics at National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) , Bhubaneshwar, UM-DAE CBS Mumbai and ISERC also take admission through NEST. The students admitted to NISER and UM DAE CBS are eligible for INSPIRE scholarship (Instituted by Dept of science and Technology, Government of India. The NEST 2014 will be held on May 31,2014. The test applications are opened in the month of January and remain open usually till the 1 week of march. The students can apply online as well as offline.   • CEE for B.Sc. B.Ed. / B.Sc.Ed.

CEE is conducted for admission to B.Sc. B.Ed. / B.Sc.Ed.course offered by Regional Institute of Education, Ajmer, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Mysore. Through CEE-2014, the candidates also get opportunity for admission in 4 Year B.Sc. B.Ed. Course in Prarambh, School for Teacher Education (Setup by Govt. of Haryana) at Jhajjar, Haryana. The last date to send filled application forms is 5th May 2014 and test will be held on 31st May 2014. Syllabus for Common Entrance examination 1. Teaching Aptitude/ Attitude: Reflections of National Curriculum Framework, RTE Act, Child Rights, Programmes and Policies of Government of India 2. Reasoning ability :Verbal, Non-Verbal 3. Language proficiency in English: Comprehension and Grammar Out of 100 marks, Teaching Aptitude/ Attitude – 30%, Reasoning Ability – 30% Language proficiency in English – 20%. Students need to clear minimum cut offs of all three test areas. Rest 20% weightage will be of aggregate marks obtained in 12th exam only in subject of combinations of the group they are applied for.   • HSEE

Humanities and social Sciences Entrance exam HSEE is conducted every year for admission to 5 year integrated MA Course in Developmental Studies and MA in English Studies offered by IIT Madras. There are 46 seats and first 2 years are common to all students after which they branch out to any one of the streams.

  • Pattern of HSEE : The exam is of 3 hours duration and has two parts. Part 1 consists of MCQ’s and Part 2 is essay writing. Part 1 covers English and Comprehension, Analytical and Quantitative techniques , Indian Economics, Indian Society, Contemporary World affairs, and environment and ecology. 10+2 students with min 60% marks in any stream are eligible for the exam. The exam is held in 9 cities in India and Foreign Nationals can also take admission through this exam only. In 2014 the last date for submitting applications was 27th Jan and the test was held on 20th April 2014.
